“So let me get this straight- I have to drive you to a store two hours away so you can buy… Model trains?”
“They’re for my dad,” Robin says as she opens the door. “Not my thing, but…. He loves them. He’s got a whole model in the garage, he’s been working on them since I was a baby.” She grins looking around the store. “And I broke one of them years ago and he’s never been able to replace it but they’re supposed to have a kit here–”
Steve shakes his head as Robin runs up to the counter, asking the cashier about this elusive model train.
“That’s a rare one,” she says with a grin. “You’re in luck today, though–”
“Yeah, I’ve been chading it down for ages, and since they stopped making it- and the measurements on some of the similar ones just aren’t–”
The babble of excited *train talk* puts Steve in a deep trance until they finally leave, bag in hand.
“So… Your DAD likes trains.”
“Mm-hm.”
“And you’re just an innocent bystander. Not your thing.”
Her face is red. “Mm-hm.”
“Because you "don’t do nerd shit like your ridiculous kids”.“
"Model trains are VERY different from dungeons and dr- alright, you got me,” she sighs as indignation appears and then fades. “It’s still got my dad. He just… We share a passion.”
Steve just shakes his head. “You know I’d have driven you either way.”
